I gotta agree with you, Fritz. I did a race summer before last after tying one on the night before, and it was agony. I felt like I was swimming through molasses. Yuck! Maybe you should get on the bike after sleeping in, drinking a lot of water, eating a greasy breakfast and taking a nap?

Its fun to feel the wind just wearing a shirt and skirt and sandals on your bike. (that photo makes me long for spring again when the fun factor is bumped up!)
Its fun to stop and explore places because you actually saw them as you passed by instead of going "huh, what was that?" at car speed.
Its fun to pass cars.
Its fun to cruise along with a tailwind after having endured a tough headwind from the opposite direction.
Its fun bombing down a hill.
Its fun to park right in front of the door.
Its fun to wave and smile at other cyclists.
Its fun to bling your bell.
Its fun trying to beat your own land speed records.
Its fun the sound the bike makes as it clonks over a metal grate.

Bike instead of car. Save lots of money. Check.
Bike instead of gym membership. Check. I can't believe how expensive the membership I used to have was and how infrequently I'd want to use it and how much more fun biking is as a form of exercise, in fact I usually forget it is exercise until I do it to the obsessive point of getting worn out :)

Amen to that. In my humble opinion, cycling is one of the greatest sports on earth.

This is the truth. Cycling is fun and feels great. I enjoy being outside and riding by all the kids riding their bikes and walking to school. One of the fun parts of my ride is going as fast as I can down a hill into a small valley and trying to make it up the other side without slowing down. If I make it (which only happens if I slept well, ate a big breakfast, and a bit of tail wind doesn't hurt), I usually impress a few drivers and get a big ego boost for the day.

I'm using an Excel spreadsheet on my work laptop right now, but I used ThinkDB on my PDA for along time too.
One good reason to keep track of your rides, especially commuting rides, is that the IRS just may give us the tax breaks granted to car pool and public transit users. It comes up now and then on the LAB newsletter.
