[Cyclelicious] New comment on They ride bicycles in the Large Hadron Collider.

BurnFromWithin has left a new comment on your post "They ride bicycles in the Large Hadron Collider":

I was actually going to send these links to you a couple of days ago, but never got around to it.

Here's two pictures of bikes inside the LHC:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/05/sci_nat_the_large_hadron_collider/html/1.stm
http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2008/03/god-particle/ginter-photography.html (4th picture)

I figure in such an enclosed space, you don't want to use combustion engines and bicycles are much cheaper than electric of fuel-cell powered vehicles

Well stated.

What most people miss is that the "energy problem" is definitely not a technology problem. It is a producer/consumer problem.

Whatever increase in energy production created by new technologies, it will immediately get subsumed by increased consumption.

Note that it generally takes people the same amount of time to commute to work today as it did before the automobile.

[Cyclelicious] New comment on Tinker Juarez endorses iBert.

dolan has left a new comment on your post "Tinker Juarez endorses iBert":

I had the iBert for a while. It's a decent enough design. Really it's biggest flaw is the mounting system to the frame. When the seat isn't on the bike, it leaves a rather.. dangerous looking (esp. if you're male) protruding mount.

These days I use an Xtracycle with a "Pea Pod" (bobike maxi), but I think the iBert is definitely worth checking out.

That mountain bike is way too nice to be on pavement! Shame...

This seems like one of the safer methods of carrying your kiddo around. Child carriers always scare me a little bit...same with the trailers.

"Moon-shot efforts like the Volt get attention, but the most effective ways to use less energy may have less to do with changing technology than with changing habits."

"Ditching the internal-combustion engine could mean ditching the way of life that goes with it, and returning to an era in which more travel revolves around train and bus schedules, and more people live in smaller homes in dense urban neighborhoods."

Conservation supported via better urban design pays large dividends even in the near term. State and federal policies should support these remedies, instead of supporting the opposite as they do now.

[Cyclelicious] New comment on Gasoline $5 and up along U.S. east coast.

Yokota Fritz has left a new comment on your post "Gasoline $5 and up along U.S. east coast":

Ouch Roger, those are California prices!

Refinery damage was reportedly minimal so once they jump start the machinery prices should drop again.

[Cyclelicious] New comment on Gasoline $5 and up along U.S. east coast.

Roger has left a new comment on your post "Gasoline $5 and up along U.S. east coast":

Generally speaking, gas was $4.09 in Southwestern Illinois and probably about $3.80 around St. Louis. Hopefully, the Tour of Missouri teams filled up in St. Louis before taking off.

FWIW, gas in my mid-Atlantic region is up about 20cents a gallon so far. From $3.50 to $3.70

GhostRider has left a new comment on your post "Gasoline $5 and up along U.S. east coast":

Hmmm...the current EIA data doesn't back this up -- national average is $3.648, and the Gulf Coast region is reporting an average of $3.551. Of course, those figures were updated on 9/8, so we'll see what happens when they do their updates.

Bring on $5.00 gas, I say -- keep the pressure on developing alternate energy sources!!!
