Bike to Work Day Reaches New Heights | Colorado's Bike to Work Day had the highest participation ever! Reports from across the state indicate tremendous growth in the number of people biking. For example, registered participants in the greater Denver area increased 60 percent over 2007's previous record, including more than 10,000 first-time participants! Businesses and organizations continue to recognize the importance of bicycle commuting with more than 1,000 participating companies that encouraged their employees to commute by bike. To reinforce the value that bicycling can bring to the state, Dan Grunig, executive director, wrote a letter to the editor detailing the many ways that bicycling positively impacts Colorado. Your Summit registration also gets you free admission to the mountain biking events of Crankworx Colorado. If you are a club leader... If you work with land management... If you love mountain biking and want to make sure that trails remain open and riding in Colorado continues to improve... then you should attend. Sessions will help mountain bike advocates develop achievable goals for improving Colorado mountain biking and show how to make these changes happen. The summit also will provide land agency representatives with information on how to best leverage the knowledge and energy of local advocates, working in partnership toward a common vision for recreation management. The summit is brought to you by Bicycle Colorado, IMBA, Bureau of Land Management, and U.S. Forest Service.

Created for women by women, this August 17 event is Colorado's first women's-only bike ride. Proceeds from the ride benefit Greenhouse Scholars, a nonprofit organization that supports high-performing, under-resourced college students who are from Colorado. This is a ride, not a race. It's all about doing your personal best, whatever that may be. Nobody's keeping time at the event, so if you need to take a minute and catch your breath, do! Venus de Miles has two routes to choose from: a 35-mile loop and a 65-mile route, both starting and ending in Longmont. | Colorado Springs Bicycle-Friendly Award | Colorado Springs got a jump on Bike to Work Day by celebrating on Wednesday, June 11. As part of the celebrations, Bicycle Colorado Executive Director Dan Grunig was on hand to present Mayor Rivera the city's Bicycle-Friendly Community Award from the League of American Bicyclists. This award recognizes Colorado Springs' progress integrating bicycling into the community. In 2005, Colorado Springs passed a Complete Streets ordinance that includes bicycling in all major transportation projects. Additionally, the city has expanded its bike network to include 54 miles of bike lanes and 104 miles of paved and unpaved trails within its urban trails system. Congratulations Colorado Springs! Three Colorado riders have been named to the U.S. Olympic cycling team to compete in China next month - Christian Vande Velde, Taylor Phinney and Todd Wells. Plus, the Colorado-based Garmin-Chipotle team is giving a tremendous performance at this year's Tour de France. Please join us in congratulating bicyclists and teams that call Colorado and its roads and trails home. | | | | New Membership Brochure | Bicycle Colorado has a fresh look with our membership and informational brochure! Representing bicyclists across Colorado, we wanted to create materials to show all the ways we are improving Colorado bicycling. If you have a club, organization or business and would like to distribute a batch of Bicycle Colorado brochures, email jill@bicyclecolorado.org with your information. Thanks for spreading the word about how to make Colorado more bicycle-friendly! | | | |
