A failure of moral fiber? Something like what Jimmy Carter got lambasted for saying back in the late 1970s? Something about rampant consumerism and self interest bringing us all down?

It's been a bitter few decades for people trying to live modestly while the greedy guzzlers grabbed everything they could and steered the national and global economy in all sorts of malignant directions.
